The Public Service Commission (PSC) has decided to no longer provide funding toward ASL interpreter mentorship programs in Utah effective December 31, 2021. Over the years the PSC has funded various training & mentoring programs to improve services and help with the reduce the attrition rate of ASL interpreters in Utah. This included programs such as UVU ACIPP, SLCC Fast Track, DSDHH ICAN, and currently the USU NorthStar Mentorship Program.
The current PSC funded NorthStar Mentorship Program with Utah State University will carry out all planned activities for 2021. All future NorthStar mentorship track offerings will cease after December 31, 2021. The NorthStar Team appreciates the Public Service Commission’s long-time investment in elevating interpreting services in Utah. The NorthStar Team has thoroughly enjoyed working with program participants, who have clearly demonstrated a commitment to their professional growth.
