Arnold Henry Moon, 94
|
|
Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, Arnold
Henry Moon, 94, left this mortal ife on June 17, 1999
with his family around him, to rejoin his wife,
Zelma, two sons, parents, two brothers, and two grandchildren
as well as many other family and friends, waiting for
him on the other side.
Arnold was born March 7, 1905 in Woodland, Summit
Co., Utah to Nephi and Melinda White Moon. He attended
the Ogden School for the Deaf. This is where he met
and eventually married his school mate, sweetheart,
and partner for eternity, Zelma Lundquist on June 19,
1929 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for
69 years until they were separated by her death on March
15, 1998. He will be missed by all who shared his life,
but know that there is great joy in Heaven now he is
reunited with his sweetheart and his hearing and use
of his legs are restored.
Arnold is survived by his daughters, Marjorie (Ross)
Montgomery, Beth Ann (Jay) Campbell; brothers, Phillip,
Willis, Floyd, Milton, Merrill, Roger; sisters, LaRetta
Payne, Dora Riley, Emily Jones; 17 grandchildren, 38
great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 21, 1999
with burial in West Jordan City Cemetery beside his
wife, Zelma.

Karen Ethel Bird Williams, 62
|
|
Our beloved Karen Ethel Bird Williams reunited with
God on July 28, 1999 in a peaceful sleep.
She will be remembered for her kind heartedness as
a wife, mother, grandma, sister, daughter and friend
to those who had the opportunity to know her.
Born July 22, 1937 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, daughter
of Angus Brady and Ethel Josephine Coles Bird. Reared
in Idaho, on a farm,
Karen got herself elected in attendance for Rodeo
Queen twice in Rigby and accompanied her father and
his race horses for many years. She married Norman Bryan
Williams, from Texas, September 2, 1965 in the Salt
Lake LDS Temple. For most of their marriage Norman and
Karen resided in West Jordan and raised their three
daughters. Coming from a musicial family, the "Bird
Melodians" Karen continued her passion for the
organ and piano at the Salt Lake Valley Ward for the
deaf for over 30 years. She retired from the post office
January, 1997 and enjoyed her retirement traveling with
her husband.
Our "Bird" is survived by her beloved husband,
Norman, West Jordan; daughters, Penny (Henry) Calhoun,
Sugarhouse; Jan Williams (Paul) Poynor; four grandchildren,
Karlee, Leeza, Marilee and Noralee, Murray; mother,
Ethel (step-father, Harold) Stowell, Idaho Falls, Idaho;
brother, Cloyd (Sharon) Bird, Provo; sisters, Velda
(Don) Storer, Ucon, Idaho; Vesta (Dale) Cook, Ucon,
Idaho; Jean (Paul) Byington, Ammon, Idaho. She is preceded
in death by her father, Angus Brady Bird and her daughter,
Lisa Tobi Williams.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 2, at the
Salt Lake Valley Deaf 2nd Ward with burial in West Jordan
City Cemetery.

Lloyd Howard Perkins, 75
|
|
Dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother,
and friend, returned home to his Heavenly Father on
September 4, 1999.
Born in Ogden, Utah on October 6, 1923 to James Emery
Perkins and Lila Luella Bess Perkins. He was an active
member of the LDS Church, having served as Branch President,
then Bishop of the Salt Lake Valley Ward for the Deaf.
He was the first deaf Bishop of the first deaf ward
in the history of the LDS Church. He served as a stake
missionary in Scottsdale, Arizona, and held many positions
in the Church, served on the High Council in the Salt
Lake Park Stake, and recently completed a mission with
his wife in the Norway Oslo Mission. He was married
on June 6, 1946 to Vynola Dean Kernell and later divorced.
Married Madelaine Peterson Burton December 27, 1976
solemnized in the Jordan River Temple on December 27,
1986.
He is survived by his wife and children, Lloyd Dean
(Carol), Kerry Max (Connie), Susan Perkins, Patricia
Luella (Mark) Whittaker; and stepdaughters, Dana Christensen
and Lisa M. (Brian) Woodbury; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren;
sisters, Sarah Butler, Opal Meske, Lois Johnson, Lenora
Andrus; and brother Leland (Grace). Preceded in death
by parents, two sisters and four brothers.
Special thanks to Rocky Mountain Hospice for their
tender care and support. Funeral services were held
Wednesday, September 8,
1999 at the Salt Lake Valley First Ward for the Deaf,
SLC.

Penny Karen Williams, 32
|
|
Our dearest daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunt,
cousin and friend, Penny Karen Williams, age 32, was
tragically killed on September 14, 1999.
Born October 20, 1966 in Salt Lake City, Utah, daughter
of Norman Bryan and Karen Ethel Bird Williams.
Penny was reared in West Jordan and attended and
graduated from the Utah Schools for the Deaf, with the
Class of 1983. She continued her education as a top
scholar at the University of Utah. She was well loved
by her beloved members of Alcoholics Anonymous. She
loved to sew quilts, knit, crochet, read, write, sing,
dance, and work in the garden. Her favorite pasttime
was her annual trip to Sturgis, South Dakota to ride
Harleys.
She is survived by her father, Norman; sister, Jan
(Paul) Poynor; beloved nieces, Karlee, Leeza, Marilee,
and Noralee, all of Murray; grandmothers, Ethel C. Bird
Stowell, Idaho Falls, ID.; and Mary Sonka Williams,
Las Vegas, Nevada; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lisa Tobi Williams;
and her mother, Karen Ethel Bird Williams, on July 28,
1999.
She will be greatly missed by everyone who shared
her life and loved her.
Funeral services were held Saturday, 12 noon, at
the Salt Lake Valley Deaf First Ward. Interment, West
Jordan City Cemetery in family plot.

|
Private family service held Friday, September 17
with cremation. Died by own hand. He grew up in California
and was enrolled in California School for the Deaf,
Riverside, but graduated from SELCO High School, Downey,
CA, in 1976.
He married Christine Brown and had three children.
He later divorced. He married Penny Williams on July
15, 1996. His father, his 3 of 4 older children, one
brother, Ralph, and three sisters, Cindy, Wendy and
her children, and Peggy came from California to join
Janelle Calhoun Deelstra, Jeff's mother for private
family service conducted by President Ken Kinner.

Ruth Eloise Smith, 76
|
|
Ruth Eloise (Phelps) Smith died October 16, 1999,
at West Valley City.
She was born September 29, 1923, to Amer Leo and
Grace Winifred Hoit Phelps in Blackfoot, Idaho. She
married Roy Eugene Smith, April 12, 1944; later solemnized
in the Logan LDS Temple. Her loving eternal companion
died in 1976. She was a long-time member of the Ogden
Valley Deaf Branch, where she held many positions. She
especially loved teaching Primary, and her callings
in the Relief Society. She is presently a member of
the Salt Lake Valley 1st Ward for the Deaf. Mom (Grandma)
enjoyed children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survived by children, Roger L. and Marilyn Smith,
Idaho Falls; Jerry D. and Selma Smith, West Valley City;
Rosemary Smith, Salt Lake City; 12 grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, Miriam
Thurston, Florida; Donald L. Phelps, California; Gladys
Jennings, Washington. Preceded in death by a brother
Stanley, and a sister Doris Waldburger.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 21 1999,
12 noon at the Ogden Valley Deaf Branch, 5675 South
850 East, South Ogden with viewing on Wednesday from
6-8 p.m. at the McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood
Road, and at the church Thursday, one hour prior to
services. Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery.

Sandra L. Bisignano, 52
|
|
Sandra L. Bisignano passed away at a Salt Lake Rest
Home on Sunday, January 2, 2000 of natural causes. Born February
3, 1947 to John Bisignano and Louise Fratto Bisignano.
Survived by her brother, John Bisignano, Jr.
She was born deaf and mute, therefore she attended
the Ogden School for the Deaf and Blind in 1952. She
graduated in 1968 and went to work for Deseret Industries
in 1972 to 1983. Although Sandra had many crosses to
bear, she did so with a smile, and never complained.
She later was paralyzed on one side, leaving her with
one hand to feed herself and spent most of her time
in bed with her many problems, but she still greeted
everyone with a smile. She was giving and caring of
others feelings. She was an angel coming unto this earth,
and she left an impact to humanity for her strength
and courage. Sandra was angelic, a beautiful child of
God.
Sandra, rest in God's arms surrounded by family and
your special and loving mother, Louise. Until we meet
again, say hello to everyone. We will miss you.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, January
7, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church,
715 West 300 North. A vigil service will be held Thursday,
January 6, at 7 p.m. at Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary,
372 E. 100 South. Friends may call at the mortuary Thursday
from 6-7 p.m.

Sharadee Opheikens Richins, 45
|
|
Sharadee Opheikens Richins, age 45, of Ballard, died
January 22, 2000 in a Provo hospital from complications
of pneumonia.
She was born April 16, 1954 in Ogden to Kenneth and
Germaine Davis Opheikens.
She married Johnny P. Murray, and later divorced.
Married Kenneth Ellis Richins July 24, 1992 in Roosevelt.
Sharadee enjoyed arts and crafts, needlepoint, crocheting.
She loved to be in the outdoors, camping, hunting and
fishing. She was deaf since a small child and could
communicate in sign, but she also learned to read lips
and speak. She was a great fan of Email and through
it she kept in touch with all her family and friends.
She worked for the US Forest Service and retired after
17 years.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, of Ballard,
sons, Jarvis Murray, Gusher, Jusstin Murray, Grantsville;
stepchildren, Angela (Robert) Mounteer, Roosevelt; Troy
(Jennifer) Richins, Georgia; Duane Richins, serving
an LDS mission in Guatemala; 5 grandchildren, mother,
Germaine Opheikens, Ogden, brothers, sister, Randy (Pam)
Opheikens, Rigby, ID; Craig (Nancy Opheikens, Washington
state; Marcie (Rodney) Kirkman, West Point.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 26, 11
a.m. at the Ballard LDS Church with burial in the Roosevelt
Memorial Park.

Myrle (Edwards) Jones, 86
|
|
Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,
sister, and friend, Myrle Edwards Jones passed away
February 11, 2000. She was born in Sterling, Utah March
6, 1913, a daughter of Solon and Nellie Bradley Edwards.
She married Cyril P. Jones September 27, 1933 and was
later divorced. Myrle attended the Utah School for the
Deaf in Ogden. She was an active member of the LDS Church
and served as Relief Society President in the Los Angeles
Ward for the Deaf. She loved to "sing" in
the language of the deaf. She enjoyed doing crafts and
being with her friends and attending the senior citizen
socials.
She is survived by her children, Von and Betty Jones,
Rollin Jones, Mae and Milt Farrand; seven grandchildren;
13 great-grandchildren; brother, Alma Edwards; and sisters,
Betty Hochstettler, Leda frame, Helen Lee. Preceded
in death by her parents; and sisters, Nellie Kathleen
Edwards, Laura Jensen.
Services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 16, 2000
at the Salt Lake Valley 2nd Ward for the Deaf, 6250
S. 2200 W. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Redwood
Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Rd. and Wednesday
one hour prior to services at the church. Interment,
Sterling City Cemetery.

May Melville Sagers, 76
|
|
Mae Melville Sagers, 76, died Saturday, February
19, 2000 at her daughter's home in Las Vegas after a
short battle with bladder cancer. She was born May 14,
1923 in Fillmore, UT to Brigham Lafayette Melville and
Ada Ella Jackson. She married Stanford Sagers,
June 14, 1945. The marriage was later solemnized in
the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Mae is survived by a daughter: Mrs. Lynn "Sandra"
Cowley of Las Vegas; sons: Delbert Sagers of Las Vegas;
and Elwin Sagers of Beaver, UT; brothers: LaMar (Carole)
Melville of Wendover, UT; Duane (LaRona) Melville
of Fillmore; sisters: Theo Sampson of Winnemucca, NV;
and Ada Jean Clark of Lomita, CA; 16 grandchildren
and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 26,
2000 at 1 p.m. at the Enterprise LDS Stake Center. Interment
will be in the Enterprise City Cemetery under
the direction of Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, Enterprise.

David Dennis Gould, 36
|
|
David Dennis Gould, 36, passed away Thursday, March
30, 2000. He was born at the Dee Hospital in Ogden,
Utah December 6, 1963. He graduated from the Utah School
for the Deaf in 1981. He was active in scouting and
basketball and did his best to scare us with daring
stunts on his skateboard and bike. He loved to go camping
and fishing with his family. David was happy and loving
and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
David worked at various jobs at Hill Air Force Base
and had a lot of friends there.
David is survived by his sweetheart of 11 years,
Jana Nelson, and their two beautiful sons Harley and
Juan; his parents Larry and LaRue Simpson of Roy; Dennis
and Jimmie Gould of Layton; also brothers and sisters
Bob Simpson, Amy and Jed DeVries, and Kimberly Joyce
Gould; grandmother Nettie Gould; and last but far from
least his good friend and fishing buddy John O'Neil.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 4, 2000
at Myers Mortuary in Roy.
Interment, Roy City Cemetery.

Joy Ada Ann Hancock joins her beloved husband of
55 years.
She was born January 12, 1927 in Salt Lake City to
Jane Elizabeth and Charles William Thomas.
She married John L. Hancock on Feb. 9, 1945. They
were sealed for all time and eternity in the Salt Lake
L.D.S. Temple.
Joy is survived by her three children, Linda and
Terry Wilson of Roswell, Georgia; John and Kris Hancock
of Sandy, Utah; Sally and Ron Butterfield of Kearns,
Utah; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren;
three sisters-in-law, Donna Martinson, Lois Anderson,
and Shirley Hancock; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park,
Salt Lake City on April 5, 2000.

Kenneth Charles Burdett, 90
|
|
OGDEN/B -- Kenneth Charles Burdett, 90, passed away
peacefully in his home on Thurs., June 29, 2000.
Kenneth was born in Evanston, WY., on Oct. 20, 1909
to Charles Lyman and Sarah Thomas Burdett.
He began attending the Utah School for the Deaf in
Ogden at the age of five and continued throughout his
years of education except for five years of college
which he completed with honors at Gallaudet College
in Washington D.C. He then returned to serve at the
School for the Deaf for 40 years as student supervisor,
coach, Boy Scout leader, instructor of printing, teacher
of high school math and science, and for 11 years as
Curriculum Coordinator before he retired in 1974.
He also served lovingly and compassionately in many
other capacities, both in church activities at the LDS
Branch for the Deaf where he was a wonderful Priesthood
example for deaf youth and in local state and national
programs and organizations for the deaf. He received
many honors through the years for his service and accomplishments
and positive example to all. His gentle humor and great
heart will always be cherished by his many former students,
friends and family.
Kenneth married Afton Curtis of Ogden on July 29,
1936. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt
Lake LDS Temple on September 5, 1941. She preceded him
in death in August of 1960. From this union two children
were born, JoAnn of Houston, Texas; and Ronald of Fremont,
California. In 1965, he married Priscilla Rogerson and
acquired three stepsons, Terry, Richard and Chuck Rogerson.
Also surviving is one sister, Esther McCammon of Incline
Village, NV; five grandchildren and one great-grand-daughter.
Funeral services were held Mon., July 3, 2000, at
11 a.m. at the Larkin & Sons Mortuary, 496 24th
St., Ogden. Friends may call at the mortuary, Sun.,
from 6-8 p.m. and Mon., from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment,
Ogden City Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Home Care and Hospice
for their love and support.

SALT LAKE CITY - Maria Epiminia Huerta, our beloved
daughter, sister and niece was taken away from us on
Sunday, July 30, 2000.
She was born October 11, 1974 in Ogden, Utah, to
Rosario Huerta and Jennie Barela.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She
graduated from the Deaf and Blind School in 1995 with
a scholarship. She enjoyed Spanish music and traveling
to Wendoverwith her friends.
Surviving are her mother, Jennie Rose Barela, Salt
Lake City; grandfather, Manuel Barela, Ogden; one brother,
Michael J. (Nora) Dummer, Salt Lake City; one sister,
Josephine (Daniel) Diaz, Salt Lake city; two aunts;
three uncles; five nieces; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Minnie
Barela.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on
Thursday, August 3, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's
Catholic Church, 2740 Pennsylvania Avenue., Ogden. Friends
may call on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. with Vigil Service
at 7:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Ogden, 845 Washington
Blvd. Interment, Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch.

Beloved mother, Oma Lee Loveless Richins, passed
away August 31, 2000due to injuries from an automobile
accident.
Born March 23, 1930 in Payson, UT the daughter of
Vaughn Tillman Loveless and Laurel Dimick.
Survived by children, Jane (Richard) Jeffs, Bonnie
Pertl, both of West Valley, Kenneth Richins, Roosevelt,
Dan (Daniece) Richins, Evanston, WY; 16 grandchildren;
36 great-grandchildren; a great great-granddaughter;
brothers and sisters, Ned (Gladys) Loveless, Glade (Dorothy)
Loveless, Lynn (Ivadee) Loveless, Sheldon (Janice) Loveless,
Gerald (Pat) Loveless. Preceded in death by three sisters,
Madge, Aleene, Faye; one great-grandson; and one daughter-in-law,
Sharadee.

WEST POINT - Dorothy Moshier Fisher, 89, beloved
mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away
Sunday, October 1, 2000 at the Rocky Mountain Care Center
in Clearfield of causes incident to age.
Dorothy was born August 21, 1911 in Murray, Ut; a
daughter of William E. and Katherine Gorman Moshier.
She married Alton P. Fisher Sr., October 14, 1939.
They were later divorced. She was a member of the St.
Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She graduated from Utah
School for the Deaf in Ogden.
She lived most of her life in West Point and was
a happy, caring, loving person. In spite of her many
challenges in life she never complained and always made
the best of every situation.
Dorothy was very talented and her hands were never
idle. She loved to do embroidery, ceramics, crocheting,
and all kinds of crafts. She was an active participant
at the Heritage Clearfield Senior Citizens center for
many years.
She enjoyed teaching sign language to her grandchildren
and to her friends. Her good natured disposition, her
love for life, and her sense of humor will always be
remembered.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, Alton P. (Lori)
Fisher Jr., Marty (Camille) Fisher, 11 grandchildren,
and 16 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter,
Joyce Ann Fisher, three brothers, and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday,
October 5, 2000 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church,
210 South Chapel St. Layton.
Prayer service will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at
Lindquist's Clearfield Mortuary, 1050 South State. Family
will meet friends from 7:30-9:00 p.m.
Interment, Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 4th Avenue and "T"
St. in Salt Lake City.

Steve Ellis, 20

|
Steve Ellis, 20, was killed in an auto/truck accident
caused by an icy road near Shelley, ID. He is survived
by his wife, Amy Mortensen Ellis, who sustained severe
injuries. The Ellises were juniors at USU, with Steve
majoring in physical education. The two had been married
the previous weekend, and were on their way back to
Shelley for a wedding reception on Saturday, January
6. Instead of the reception, a funeral was held. Steve
was a well-known basketball player in NWAAD.

Robert Guy Despain, age 46, died on January 6, 2001,
in Salt Lake City.
He was born on October 5, 1954, in Salt Lake City,
Utah to Guy Orson and Emily Carolyn Depain. He married
Deborah on November 12, 1977 in Elko, Nevada. Robert
enjoyed playing golf.
He is survived by wife, Deborah; daughters, Roberta,
Tracy, and Stephanie, brother, John Orson Despain. Preceded
in death by father, Guy Orson Despain and mother, Emily
Carolyn Despain.
Funeral services were held on Wed., January 10, 2001,
12 Noon, in the Colonial Mortuary, 2128 So. State St.
Interment was in the American Fork Cemetery.

Paul Gines, 82, of West Jordan, passed away peacefully.
He married Mildred Johnson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
They later divorced. He then married Mary (Gavros) Gilson
in Salt Lake City. She preceded him in death. Survivors
include three sons, Dennis, Ed and David; a daughter,
Nancy; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

|
Herbert D. Royce returned to his Heavenly Father
on January 29, 2001 at the age of 69.
He is survived by his loving wife, E.J. Royce, of
Saratoga Springs; his four children; Toby Royce of Downey,
Ca; Deanna Rainey of Provo; Gerberta Black of Provo;

Durbin of Grants Pass, Or; Patricia Robinson of Blandensville,
Il; and Sharon Welsh of Sacramento, Ca. He was preceded
in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, February
1, 2001, at 11:00 a.m., at the Chapel of the Utah
Valley Deaf Ward, 424 W. 1200 South, Provo.
Interment was in the Provo City Cemetery.

Jennie Violet Holton, 93
|
|
Jennie Violet Holton, former Ogden resident died
March 19, 2001 at the Heritage Bennion Care Center in
Salt Lake City. She was born February 18, 1908
in Brigham City, Utah a daughter of Eli and Gertude
Gibson Holton. Jennie contracted tubercular meningitis
in early childhood that left her totally deaf. She
received her education in the State School for the Deaf
and Blind in Ogden, and she was a participating member
of the Deaf Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints. She is loved and will be missed
by her family and friends.
Surviving are three nieces and one nephew, Mrs. Lynn
(Mary) Farnsworth, Mesa, Arizona; Mrs. Carl (Kathleen)
Brague, Orange, California; and Mrs. Paul (Joyce) Davis,
Salt Lake City, Utah; Mr. John L. Clark, Amalga, Utah.
Funeral services will be held March 22, 2001 at 1
p.m. at the Larkin and Sons Mortuary, 496 24th Street,
Ogden, Utah, where friends may call from 12:00 noon
to 12:45 prior to the funeral.
Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.

Carol Ann Capsul, 54
|
|
CAROL ANN CAPSUL, 54, died of natural causes April
29, 2001, at her Anchorage home.
Visitation will be at noon Thursday at Evergreen
Memorial Chapel. A service will be at 1 p.m. with the
Rev. Thomas Gallagher, S.J., officiating. Pallbearers
will include Donald Capsul, Davin Capsul, Darrel Whitley,
Reuben Attatayuk, Frederick Capsul and Randy Wilson.
Burial will follow at the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery.
Afterwards, a reception will be held at the home
of Alberta Wilson, 947 W. 74th Ave.
Mrs. Capsul was born March 20, 1947, in Holy Cross.
She moved to Fairbanks in 1959, and to Anchorage in
1960. She was educated at the Utah School
for the Deaf, graduating in 1967.
Mrs. Capsul worked as a records clerk at Alaska Native
Medical Center from 1989 until 1999. She also worked
for the Loussac Library and the Civil Service.
She enjoyed playing bingo, knitting and crocheting,
baking, watching sports and movies, playing cards and
visiting.
Her family said: "Carol will always be remembered
as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister,
aunt, cousin and friend. She was very kind-hearted and
was always worried about everyone else but herself.
Carol suffered from many health-related ailments and
never complained, yet she never let any of her sons
down. Whenever she was in the room, she always had a
joke that put a smile on everyone's face. She will be
greatly missed by her whole family."
Mrs. Capsul is survived by her sons, Donald Capsul,
Davin Capsul, Darrel Whitley and Reuben Attatayuk of
Anchorage; grandson, Dustin Capsul of Anchorage; granddaughter,
Dakota Capsul; brothers, John Capsul, Peter Capsul and
Alfred Capsul of Anchorage; sisters, Alberta Wilson
and Eva Edwards of Anchorage; and many nieces, nephews,
great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins throughout Alaska.

Gibert Jay Don Parkin, 74
|
|
Gilbert Jay Don Parkin, 74, died October 31, 2001
at his home.
He was born November 28, 1926 in Ogden, the only
son of Lafayette Don Carlos Parkin and Beatrice Mae
Covington. He grew up in Ogden and attended the Utah
School for the Deaf. He attended Weber College and later
pursued a 44-year career as a Journeyman Sheet Metal
Worker.
Jay was a member of the Ogden Valley Deaf Branch,
where he served as a second counselor in the Bishopric
for six years and the executive secretary to President
Baggs for two years.
On May 28, 1949, he married Rosa Lee Mae Caraveau
in Ogden. The marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden
LDS Temple. Rosa Lee gave comfort and support as a beloved
wife and was by his side at his passing.
Jay loved to go fishing, hunting, boating and spending
time with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Rosa Lee, his children, Dennis
(Aimee) Parkin, Riverdale; Patricia (Stephen) Felsted,
Salt Lake City; Susan (Dale) Grant, Salt Lake City;
Brent (Georgiann) Parkin, North Ogden; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L. Don and
Beatrice Parkin.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 5,
2001 at 11 a.m. at Leavitt"s Mortuary, 836 36th
St., Ogden, with Branch President Robert K. Boehmer
officiating. Friends and family may call on Sunday at
Leavitt"s Mortuary from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday
from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment: Leavitt"s Aultorest Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations
may be given to benefit the Utah Community Center of
the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, 5709 South 1500 West,
Salt Lake City, Utah 84123. Please make checks payable
to: UCCD Trust Fund.

Robert A. Shupla, 45
|
SALT LAKE CITY - Robert Anthony (Bobby) Shupla, 45,
died Sunday, Jan.
13, 2002, in the LDS Hospital.
He was born Feb. 20, 1956, in Brigham City, Utah,
a son of Franklin and Margie I. Poocha Shupla. He was
a Hopi/Tewa Tribal member, the Roadrunner clan, of the
Hopi Tribe. He graduated from the Utah School for the
Deaf and was employed as a cartographer at the U.S.
Forest Service since July 3, 1978. He was a member of
the LDS Church.
Bobby was a member of the Golden Spike Athletic Association
for the Deaf; Utah Sportsman Club for the Deaf; and
the Utah Athletic Club for the Deaf. He enjoyed hunting,
fishing, bowling, and was a avid Washington Redskins
fan.
Surviving are his father of Polacca, Arizona; two
brothers and two sisters, Winchell (Norma) Shupla, Roy;
Marshall (Susan) Shupla, Polacca, Ariz.; Stephanie Shupla,
Layton, Utah; Leila Youvella, Phoenix, Ariz.; eight
nephews and six nieces; one grand-nephew and two grand-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his mother; a brothers,
Hurbert Shupla and Mark Allen Shupla.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002,
at 11 a.m. in the LDS Branch for the Deaf, 5640 So.
850 E. South Ogden. Friends may call at the Larkin &
Sons Mortuary, Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday
at the church from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment in the Ogden
City Cemetery
